Bachelor's Degree University Preparatory Program
Considerations
  • Applications that include only a postgraduate degree will not be accepted, as a high school diploma or bachelor’s degree is required for employment.
  • Postgraduate degrees will be recorded once you have been admitted to the CFIA, as an update to your academic profile.
  • Graduates from two universities must meet all the requirements for each academic degree.
  • If you submit only your bachelor’s degree certificate, you must also provide a transcript of courses completed and the curriculum for your entire academic program (high school and bachelor’s degree). If the transcript includes courses that have been transferred, recognized, or deemed equivalent, you must meet the requirements established for such cases.
  • Degrees obtained from foreign universities must bear the consular seals and the seal of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Worship, as specified in Article 67 of the Consular Service Act (No. 46, dated junio 7 junio ), or must be duly apostilled in accordance with the provisions of Law 8923; and submit the original and a photocopy of the certification of recognition and equivalence.
  • For degrees obtained abroad, prior to applying for enrollment in the CFIA, you must apply for recognition and equivalency of your degree through the National Council of Rectors (CONARE). The Department of Professional Training can provide guidance prior to filing with CONARE; you may contact them by email at formacion.profesional@cfia.cr or by phone at 2103-2263.
  • Once you have obtained the certification of recognition and equivalence, you may apply for membership with the CFIA by submitting all the required documents.
  • The documentation must be in Spanish; otherwise, an officially certified translation must be provided.

The documentation received by the Services Platform is forwarded to the Registration and Documentation Department for verification and subsequent review by the committee of each Member Association, depending on the profession.

If any of the requirements are not submitted correctly or do not comply with CFIA regulations, you will be notified via email.

Receipt of the requirements does not constitute approval.

The appointment will be subject to review and a decision by the Board of Directors.

All information regarding the onboarding process will be sent to the email address you provided. We recommend that you check your email folders, including your Spam, Promotions, and Social folders.

If the application is approved, membership in the CFIA takes effect upon the individual’s swearing-in before the General Board of Directors.

“…Article 23.1 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights states: ‘Everyone has the right to work, to the free choice of employment, to just and favorable conditions of work, and to protection against unemployment.’”

This widespread recognition of work as an inalienable right takes for granted its significance in that it dignifies the individual; and, in its deepest sense, it is the expression of human beings’ creative and service-oriented capacities. Ultimately, this is the “way” in which humanity transforms its environment for its own benefit.

It is through the ethical commitment inherent in belonging to a professional association that a solid foundation for professional practice is established. This is not only necessary but also sufficient, since voluntary membership—as a result of an awareness of one’s responsibilities—far surpasses the need to rely exclusively on a coercive basis or one that appeals to convenience; moreover, it gives these very foundations their true meaning.

“Why, then, should one join and actively participate in a professional association to support the practice of a profession? The answer is simple: because it is the right thing to do. That is why, at the CFIA, we take an oath of honor before God, before the nation, and before the Professional Association…” Daniel Hernández Jiménez, Engineer.

In accordance with the provisions of the Organic Law of the CFIA, the only individuals authorized to perform work related to engineering and architecture are those who are members of the CFIA, pursuant to the provisions of Articles 9 and 12 of the aforementioned Organic Law.
