Requirements
The application to opt for the license must be submitted on the CFIA service platforms or sent to the following email address: formacion.profesional@cfia.cr
Below you can see the requirements for obtaining a license for the first time:
- Be a professional in Mechanical Engineering, Electromechanical Engineering, or Industrial Maintenance Engineering.
- Be licensed to practice.
- Stay up to date with your obligations to the CFIA.
- Pass courses 1, 2, and 3 of the Professional Refresher Program in LPG Installations.
- Have at least two years of demonstrable experience in the design, installation, and maintenance of at least five LP gas installation projects described in Category 1 of Article 13 of the Regulations for the registration of authorized LP gas installation inspectors.
- Having obtained the license 1.
- Pass courses 4 and 5 of the Professional Refresher Program in LPG Installations.
- Have at least two years of experience conducting inspections of LPG facilities as described in Category 1 of Article 13 of the Regulations for the registration of authorized LPG facility inspectors, with at least five certified inspections whose certification and subsequent processing have been approved by the Ministry of Health. The professional responsibility for the inspections submitted for assessment must have been processed by the CFIA under the guidelines established for this purpose.
- Have at least 2 years of demonstrable experience in the design, installation, and maintenance of at least 5 LPG installation projects described in Category 2 of Article 13 of the Regulations for the Registration of Authorized Inspectors of LP Gas Installations.
- Having obtained the license 2.
- Pass Course 6 of the Professional Refresher Program in LPG Installations.
- Have at least two years of experience conducting inspections of LPG facilities as described in Category 2 of Article 13 of the Regulations for the registration of authorized inspectors of LP gas facilities, and at least five certified inspections, whose certification and subsequent processing have been approved by the Ministry of Health.
- Have at least 2 years of demonstrable experience in the design, installation, and maintenance, or at least 5 LP gas installation projects described in Category 3 of Article 13 of the Regulations for the registration of authorized LP gas installation inspectors.
- Having obtained the license 3.
- Pass Course 7 of the Professional Refresher Program in LPG Installations.
- Have at least 3 years of experience in inspecting LPG facilities as described in Category 3 of Article 13 of the Regulations for the registration of authorized LPG facility inspectors, and at least 5 certified inspections that have been approved by the Ministry of Health.
- Have developed, in the last 5 years, a minimum of 3 projects, with a minimum capacity of 12,000 gallons each, involving the design, construction, or maintenance of self-consumption facilities, petrochemical plants, or LPG bottling and marketing plants.

Certification of the Professional Refresher Program courses required for the type of license you are applying for.
- The project number registered with the CFIA detailing your participation and contracted services.
- Affidavit in which the professional attests to the projects in which they have participated and there is no record of their responsibility in the CFIA. In this case, they must also provide documents proving their participation. The affidavit must be authenticated by a lawyer.
- In the case of inspection experience, the interested party must submit the certificates issued by the Ministry of Health for the projects they have inspected, as well as the relevant approvals from that entity.
- Any other documents that the professional considers necessary to prove their experience.
For the purposes of the Regulations for the registration of authorized LP gas facility inspectors, the following is considered demonstrable experience:
Direct participation as a professional responsible for the design or installation of LP gas facility projects or as a professional responsible for the inspection and maintenance of the components that make up an LP gas facility.
Remember that:
- Once the application has been submitted, if the information is incomplete or otherwise fails to comply with the provisions of these regulations, the applicant will be granted a non-extendable period of 10 business days to correct, supplement, or clarify the deficiencies noted. If the requirements are not met within the deadline, or are not met satisfactorily, the application will be declared inadmissible and ordered to be closed.
- Submission of the application and the corresponding reports does not guarantee that the applicant will obtain the license.
- All information and requirements must be submitted in full; applications that do not comply with this requirement will not be accepted.
- All documentation must be in Spanish; otherwise, an officially certified translation must be provided.
